If you do not want to experience pain associated with deep massage pressure, then Dry Needling may be the answer for you!
What is Dry Needling and how does it work?
Dry Needling is the insertion of fine acupuncture-type needles into tight muscles or trigger points, which seeks to relieve muscle pain by causing a ‘twitch response’ of the muscle tissue, resulting in relaxation and subsequent release of the taut/contracted muscle area. This then enables the muscle’s normal functions to be restored. Trigger points are hyperirritable taut bands that develop within a muscle, that usually occur as a result of stresses, including poor posture, repetitive actions or emotional trauma. They can cause referred pain and create dysfunction in other parts of the body.
Is it safe to have Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a very safe and relaxing process. In some cases, a needle being inserted into a trigger point muscle may create slight discomfort. However, there is no sharp or excessive pain and many patients do not feel the needles being inserted at all.
Who can benefit from Dry Needling?
Dry Needling may help to reduce the severity of symptoms in conditions such as:
- Back and neck pain
- Muscular tightness
- Sporting Injuries
The majority of our Osteopaths, Remedial Massage Therapists and Myotherapists offer Dry Needling at OOC as part of their treatments.
