Book with Dean

Dean graduated from RMIT University in 1998 with a double degree in Applied Science (specialising in Clinical Science) and Osteopathic Science. Soon after qualifying, he commenced practising at Blackburn Allied Health Group (formerly Blackburn Osteopathy) and he has been a co-owner and Partner in that Practice since 2001. In October 2007, Dean established Canterbury Health Hub, which together with his amazing team of experienced osteopaths, myotherapists, remedial massage therapists and receptionists, has created one of the most highly respected allied health clinics in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Osteopathy was Dean's target profession from the time he turned 15 years old. Having suffered an acute neck injury from jumping awkwardly into a swimming pool in Year 10, his GP at the time referred him to an Osteopath for treatment. The osteopathic practitioner worked his magic and Dean was completely pain-free and fully mobile again, after only a few treatments. It was simply amazing! He was hooked from then on in. Dean worked really hard in his VCE year and was accepted into the Osteopathic course at RMIT immediately following his Year 12 High School studies. The rest is history!!

Over his 20 years in Practice, Dean has watched the profession grow enormously and is proud of the reputation and global recognition that it has today. He thoroughly enjoys treating a broad cross-section of the community, using a wide range of osteopathic techniques, including Cranial Osteopathy and draws immense satisfaction from successful outcomes for his patients.

Dean held the position of Vice-President of the Victorian Branch of Osteopathy Australia for a three year period. He continues to support the teaching of osteopathic students at both his clinics, by providing them with an opportunity to experience clinical practice through observation, mentoring and tutorial sessions held at the clinic.

Dean prides himself on his excellent listening and communication skills. He feels that building a rapport with his patient, combined with educating them about their conditions, is vital in helping them to achieve optimal results. Having suffered from an acute lower back discal injury many years ago that required surgery, Dean understands first-hand what it is like to suffer from acute pain, undergo spinal surgery and complete rehabilitation programs. As a result, he draws from his own personal experiences in assisting in the treatment, management and care of his patients, aiming to deliver the best possible outcomes. Acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, disc related lower back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain and headaches are among some of the many conditions that particularly interest him.

Dean has four awesome children – a sixteen year old daughter, Ella, a fourteen year old son Joshua, a twelve year old son Thomas and a ten year old son, William. He prides himself on being the best dad he can be for his kids and he loves them dearly.

In his spare time, Dean particularly enjoys playing the guitar and drums, having played many gigs with his band over the years. He loves listening to loud music of any type and enjoys following the football, but only if the Saints are playing! He always looks forward to spending quality time with his family and friends.

Book with David

David joined Canterbury Health Hub in 2022 after graduating from RMIT University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy).

David discovered Osteopathy during a previous career, where prolonged hours at a desk resulted in chronic neck pain and headaches. Osteopathic treatment enabled him to manage these conditions better, which sparked an interest in him returning to University and study Osteopathy, as he wanted to assist others in the way in which he was helped.

David is a caring, welcoming and knowledgeable Osteopath, who makes you feel at ease as soon as you meet him. He uses his strong listening and communication skills to understand exactly what the needs of his patients are, in order to help them achieve their goals. He enjoys treating a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints and patients of all age groups, using various techniques, including soft tissue massage, stretching, muscle energy techniques and mobilisation. He complements his manual therapy with pain education and self-management strategies in the form of strengthening and/or mobility exercises, to empower patients to take an active role in their health.

Having experienced chronic neck pain and headaches, David gains a lot of satisfaction from treating these conditions. He also enjoys treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions (especially of the spine and pelvis), postural complaints, as well as upper and lower limb conditions and jaw pain.

Outside of work, David enjoys music and playing guitar, having previously gigged regularly around Melbourne. To stay active, he regularly performs resistance training and Pilates. He also likes spending time with family and friends, board gaming, reading and following the NFL – that is if he can find time when he is not running around with his one-year-old son or dog!

Book with Amber

Amber graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Science (Osteopathy) and a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) after originally studying Science and Engineering at Monash University. She is also a qualified Pilates instructor with a Cert IV in Fitness.

Amber grew up in northern Victoria and completed her schooling in Melbourne. After studying Science/Engineering straight out of school and working for a period, she realised she did not enjoy the profession and wanted to work more with people. Her love of Pilates led her to become an instructor. While working at a studio with an Osteopath on-site, she discovered Osteopathy when she sought treatment following a flair up of her lower back. This was the life-changing event that altered the course of her career.

Having suffered from lower back pain since childhood and numerous netball injuries, Amber knows the importance of all aspects of treatment, especially those affecting long-term outcomes. Many of her rehabilitation exercises will have a Pilates flavour to them, which she also used for herself with her back pain following pregnancy.

Amber is a friendly, empathetic person who believes Osteopathy should look at every aspect of a patient to understand them and their condition. Her engineering background helps with her problem-solving skills to find the cause of the problem, not just treat the symptoms. She uses this to develop the best treatment plan for her patients and work with them to help them achieve their goals.

Several injuries from playing netball piqued her interest in treating hip, knee, ankle and foot pain and injuries, as well as lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, issues with ribs and breathing, as well as core strengthening. She does this by using education and rehabilitation as well as hands-on techniques, both direct (such as mobilisation, stretching and massage) and indirect (e.g. balanced ligamentous tension, indirect myofascial release) for those who prefer a gentle treatment approach.

Amber is a mum to two young kids who keep her busy when she’s not at work. She is an avid sports lover and often doesn’t know what to do with herself between footy and cricket seasons. When she does find a few moments, she likes to listen to podcasts, particularly comedy, sport and history. Also, coffee is life!

Emily graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Clinical Science (Osteopathy) and a Masters of Health Science (Osteopathy), after originally studying Exercise Science and Nutrition majors at Deakin University.

Please note: Emily is not currently taking new patients.

Emily grew up in country South West Victoria, where there wasn’t much else to do but play sport. Emily enjoyed playing all sport as a child and teenager, with her specialty being netball. With both her parents being nurses and spending much of her childhood in and around the local hospital, Emily knew her career would end up in the health profession.

Emily is also a swimming coach and has enjoyed being able to help kids of all ages learn to swim and develop them into state level swimmers for the past 10+ years. She can also easily develop swimming-based rehabilitation programs for her patients.

Emily is an extremely passionate and enthusiastic Osteopath and enjoys treating patients of all ages. She loves the holistic approach it has, incorporating education, dry needling and rehabilitation into her treatments and management of patients. As a headache sufferer herself for many years, Emily particularly enjoys treating this condition, as she is able to draw on her experiences (having trialled what has and has not been successful) and use this to her advantage in achieving positive patient outcomes.

Emily is eager to continue her Professional Development and has completed extra courses in both Dry Needling and Balanced Ligamentous Tension (gentle, indirect osteopathic series of techniques that can be really useful for acute conditions and/or those patients that prefer a gentle approach). More recently, she has completed her training in mat Pilates.

Family is a big part of Emily’s life, coming from a large and very close extended family. She enjoys catching up with her family whenever she can, especially her cheeky niece and nephews. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, travelling, shopping and baking for others – so she doesn’t eat all the sweets herself!

He discovered Osteopathy as an adolescent after experiencing lower back pain for many months, unable to live life the way he wanted to. He saw an Osteopath for treatment, which enabled him to return to all his sporting activities pain-free! This experience inspired him to study Osteopathy, so that he too could help others in pain and allow them to reach their full potential.

Nathan is a dedicated practitioner who prides himself on clear and concise treatment plans. He is passionate about working with his patients to help them reach their goals, and improve their overall health and wellbeing. He enjoys helping his patients to understand their musculoskeletal conditions, whilst also educating them on ways to help themselves along their journey to recovery. He prescribes rehabilitation strengthening and stretching exercises to his patients in combination with manual therapy techniques to achieve effective results.

Nathan’s interest in the sporting field led him to work at the Western Bulldogs Football Club as a sports trainer for 3 years. This invaluable experience working alongside elite athletes sparked a special interest in treating acute musculoskeletal injuries. While at the club, he was fortunate to be involved in the 2016 AFL and VFL premierships.

Nathan enjoys continuing his professional training and development. Since graduating, he has completed further training in dry needling and mat pilates.

Book with Jane

Jane joined the team at Canterbury Health Hub in 2023 after graduating with a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy and an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy from Melbourne Institute of Massage and Myotherapy in 2006. She also completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy from The Southern School of Natural Therapies in 2000 and an Applied Science Degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture in 2013. Currently, she also teaches in the Diploma of Massage and Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy courses throughout Melbourne.

Jane began her journey in the health profession studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy (SSNT) in 2000. She did massage as a part of this study and it was clear that while the holistic principles of naturopathic medicine resonated deeply for her, hands-on treatment was where it was at. She continued her manual therapy studies through the Diploma of Remedial Massage (2006) and the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy courses. She also managed to sneak in a cheeky post graduate Applied Science Degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture in 2013.

Jane sees working with clients through massage as a special opportunity to partner with them on the journey to recovery, and her primary aim of treatment is to nurture, listen and remove the obstacles to feeling good. As well as a good pair of experienced hands, Jane has strong clinical reasoning skills and a broad range of manual techniques to draw from, including Deep Tissue Massage, MFR (Myofascial Release), Trigger Point Therapy, MET (Muscle Energy Technique) and Flame Cupping. Jane uses needles sparingly, relying on manual therapy as a first preference. She has worked extensively with people experiencing chronic pain syndromes and a broad range of muscular dysfunctions resulting from overuse, postural problems, acute and chronic injuries.

Jane is lucky to have another role that she is deeply passionate about; teaching in the Diploma of Massage and Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy courses. Having done this since 2012, she finds that teaching keeps her skills and knowledge frosty, and ensures she can bring the best of current practice to her clinical work.

Outside of work life, Jane is a mum to Sabine, aged 17, and Astrid, 20. She is also a seeing eye human to her blind greyhound, Bear. Jane gigs regularly, fronting a Western Swing band and sings with a 60s Garage Surf band. She also loves to stitch clothes and accessories and has a wicked fabric stash habit.

Tash co-owns her own pole fitness studio in Oakleigh South and loves helping her students become strong and confident, and through this her love for myotherapy began. From her work at her studio, she accrued a wealth of knowledge on how to prevent, detect, manage, and rehabilitate injuries (including her own!), which led her into a Myotherapy career.

Tash is particularly interested in treating neck and shoulder pain, wrist and forearm pain, ankle and knee pain, providing injury rehab and exercise prescription, as well as lifestyle management.

On her days off from the clinic, Tash loves an adventure in nature as well as gardening, swimming, painting, practicing her pole sport or having a cuddle with her beloved fluffy ragdoll cat, Pablo.

Book with Chris

Chris joined the team at Canterbury Health Hub in 2024, after graduating with a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy in 2022 and Certificates III and IV in Fitness (2011). He is currently completing his Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at the Australian College of Bodywork and is in his 2nd year of Physiotherapy at Victoria University.

Chris recently relocated from sunny Queensland to Melbourne in pursuit of a more dynamic and fast-paced lifestyle. As a teenager, he was involved in soccer, cross country and athletics at state level. During this time, Chris developed an interest in how the body moves, which led him into the world of personal training.

Initially, Chris specialised in training clients for sports and high-performance events. However, he found himself spending more time rehabilitating clients' injuries. Over the years, Chris looked to improve his skill set to assist his clients, which led him to pursue studies in remedial massage. Equipped with a robust understanding of injury rehabilitation and iron thumbs (when required), Chris was able to achieve greater results for his clientele.

Chris infuses every treatment with his infectious enthusiasm, experience, genuine curiosity, and extensive knowledge. Treatments with Chris incorporate a variety of techniques, including myofascial release, positional release techniques, muscle energy techniques, stretching, dry needling, cupping, corrective movement patterning and rehab exercises.

Chris is currently pursuing his Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at the Australian College of Bodywork. Additionally, he is in his second year of studying Physiotherapy at Victoria University. He has also completed further studies in cranial sacral technique, osteopathic cranial work and visceral (organs) release techniques, that he adopts in his treatments as required.

Chris enjoys treating people of all age groups, with a particular interest in those suffering from chronic pain conditions, especially of the head, neck, back, respiratory and jaw-related concerns (such as headaches, back pain, dizziness, jaw clenching, grinding, breathing and swallowing issues). He also has a strong interest in treating sporting injuries, those suffering from posture related pain and scoliosis, and also providing extensive exercise and rehab programs for his clients.

Outside of the clinic, Chris runs a small business where he buys and sells collectible items. He also enjoys going to the gym and participates in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (the gentle martial art of folding your opponent up like origami).
